Skyvane Roof Solar Shading System

A new 300,000 square foot BMW showroom has been completed in Grapevine, Texas, complete with an eye-catching external sun shading solution courtesy of Levolux.
A roof sun shading – or Brise Soleil – solution was required to shield staff, visitors and vehicles in the showroom from direct sunlight. Levolux was invited to develop a cost-effective sun shading solution applied externally.

The brise soleil sun shading solution installed at this new BMW showroom in Texas comprises an imposing high-level canopy that extends across the two-story showroom. The impressive horizontal structure stands 12.5m in height, supported by 600mm diameter steel columns, and measures almost 100m long by 21m deep.

Details
Secured within a steel grid structure, Levolux engineered 382 extruded aluminum airfoils, which are divided into 42 individual bays. The airfoils, each measuring 400mm wide by 100mm deep, run from east to west, with free spans of up to 7.2m.
All airfoils are inclined at an angle of 29 degrees to counter the position of the sun in the south.
The spacing between airfoils ranges from just 470mm in the south of the canopy, increasing to 1290mm in the north.
All aluminum components supplied by Levolux, including the single-piece extruded airfoils, in addition to structural end caps and side plates, are finished in a bright white powder coating to deliver a striking aesthetic.
